Art Show to Reflect Our Vision

By Tabitha Korhummel

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

Hello, Westport people, friends and neighbors:

There is an art exhibit in planning.  And I am inviting you to be a part of it.  In hopes to gain community input and share with each other our visions of and for this place we call home, I am asking each of you for any piece of art work that has to do with Westport.  Ideally, it will be ready to display at the Church on April 9th.  After Easter, the show will move to the Lost Coast Inn, where hopefully more people will be inspired to add their art, so that it will grow over a few weeks, until the “opening” party.  Lets come together with a positive vibe and make something happen.  There is something very special and beautiful about our little town and its surrounding areas, that makes us all love to live here.  Express this in a work of art!  Inspired?  Call me at 964-3254 to confirm your space.

Thank you, friends and neighbors,

Tabby

A World of Fashion

On the evening of April 26 parents and friends of the Westport Village School will be presenting a festive fundraiser: their second annual fashion show, on the theme, ”A Celebration of the World of Fashion.”  The event will be held at the Purple Rose restaurant starting at 6:00 PM and will cost $25 for adults, $10 for children.  The price includes a Mexican buffet dinner and the fashion show.  Generous local merchants are lending fashionable clothing with an international flair, suitable for men, women, and children.  Space is limited, so buy your tickets now at the Purple Rose or the Store.

Delightful Daffodils

Thanks to Jenny and all the other daffodil planters for the “Geranium” daffodils now blooming everywhere!

Meeting with Student Community Design Team this Saturday

On Saturday afternoon, April 10, the Community Design Team of Randy Hester and his Berkeley students will be in Westport for a presentation and discussion of the alternative siting plans they have developed for community facilities, new housing, and economic development.  These plans all reflect the information that was gathered from interviews and from the workshop here in November; yet they are quite different!.  There will be discussion of the plans and a questionnaire for you to indicate which plan you prefer and why.  This feedback will be the basis of the final plan students will develop between now and May.

Please attend the meeting at 2:00 Saturday afternoon at the Church.  Questionnaires will be available for those unable to attend, but you can make the process more meaningful by participating in the discussion.  Another reason to attend is that this will be the premiere of the Westport Visions art show (see article this page).

Text Box:

The Board approved hiring a consultant to address questions raised by the Mendocino County Department of Planning and Building Services about our pending Coastal Development Use Permit for public access improvements to the Westport Headlands.  The County had questions about impacts on riparian and wet meadow areas that were identified in a botanical survey conducted for us by Teresa Scholars.  A wetland delineation may be required to address those questions.  Contacts with prospective consultants are underway and the study may not be completed until this summer.  As reported last month, this implies our permit will not be approved until the fall or winter of 2004 and construction will not occur until the summer of 2005.

We are also gearing up for our annual Great Rubber Ducky Race to be held at the Wages Creek Campground Sunday May 9.  The gates will open at 11:00 AM and things will get into full swing by 12 noon with meals and Duck Beauty and Uniqueness awards starting off a day of fun events.  Come join us and bring your mother to celebrate the day.  If you are interested in helping out, it is a nice way to get involved with our group.  Call event coordinator Lois Senger at 961-0178.
